I had a blast capturing Emma Scott’s senior session at the Grand Haven Pier! With timeless charm and natural beauty, the beach and lighthouse truly brought out the youthful energy of the session. The beach was such a perfect location for Emma’s session because she is planning to join the Coast Guard out of high school and go into marine studies!
From the very beginning, Emma’s vibrant personality was a joy to photograph. The session started on the pier, where the iconic red lighthouse stood tall against the expansive sky. I loved her choice of the comfy and casual “mom” jeans, and she was such a natural in front of the lens. I hardly had to give her any direction- she was beautifully in-tune with what flowed well and we had a really great time just chatting and walking around enjoying the early evening sunset.
As we transitioned from the pier to the water’s edge, the session took on a more relaxed and playful tone. We had talked early on about what she wanted most from her session and she told me “I am good with anything as long as we can make it aesthetic.” I thought this was a really neat way to approach these portraits, so we tried a few things to see what we liked best. Her confidence and grace made each shot a seamless blend of elegance and ease. We experimented with some motion blur and utilized the natural movement of the lake to dd a touch of whimsy to the images. The interplay of light and water created a dynamic, almost ethereal quality that truly highlighted Emma’s engaging personality. It’s so easy to see how much fun we had creating these images and telling the story of her personality and her hopes and dreams through these photos. I am so excited to share them!
We had so much fun in the water and really wanted to showcase the beauty of this area and really make some connections to Emma’s wonderful personality and her goals and dreams. I think we did alright!
